    MeetingPlay's #EventProfs: Rob B.

Each Friday on the MeetingPlay blog - we focus on the talent behind the hard work of MeetingPlay, the dedicated faces behind MeetingPlay's mobile event apps and event technology. This week we meet MeetingPlay's manager of Business Development, Rob B.

    Meet Rob:
IMG_1124.jpg1. What was your first job – tell us about it.

My first job was when I was in 7th grade, delivering the Washington Post.  It was the main source of news, so I was up a 4:30am every morning. No matter the weather, rain, snow, sleet or heat, the paper had to be delivered.    I would get back home, sleep for an hour and then head to the bus stop for school.  At the end of the month, you had to “collect.” That meant going door-to-door for the subscription payment.  I’d make about $120 each month (including tips), which for a 13 year old was a mint.

    2. Who has influenced you most in your professional path/career?

I cannot point to any one person.  Over the years, I have had experience with some great mentors, coaches and leaders.  Some of never met before, but each having unique attributes that have made them extraordinary.  I’ve always tried to emulate those qualities.

    3. What's your favorite part about working in the event technology (or events) industry?

Two parts: People and Product.  In this space, there are some brilliant thinkers, thought leaders and problem solvers who take on unique challenges and then deliver outstanding solutions that delight customers.  I learn something new every day…not many people can say that about their job.

    4. Looking back, what career advice would you tell your 18-year-old self?

Never be satisfied or you’ll become complacent.  Always strive to learn more.  Challenge yourself every day.

“If you get to the point where you think you know it all, you’re going to stop learning.” -  John Wooden

    5. What's your favorite thing to do when you're not working?

Wow, that’s a tough one.  I like to keep busy. I’m an outdoorsman.  When not in the woods, I’m on the Bay crabbing.  I’ve dabbled with a few triathlon’s, so now I’ve caught the cycling bug (…still need to improve my swimming).  My wife and I love to travel far and near.  We just returned from Spain and Portugal and are planning our next trip to Ireland.  I’ve played hockey since I was young, now I’m on a men’s beer league team…sometimes I’m not sure if we play for the love of the sport or the beer.
